Adding a central midfielder before the transfer window closes this evening is something West Ham are desperate to do, whether they will remains to be seen.
Andre Gomes is a reported target for the Hammers as they look to solve their midfield problem. West Ham met with the player’s representatives on Monday to sound out his interest in a loan move and are currently discussing the terms of the loan with Barcelona, who are keen to offload him.
Gomes signed for Barcelona last summer from Valencia in a £31.5m deal but the Portugal international only started 17 La Liga games last term and failed to impress
Tottenham have also been linked with Gomes but they have cooled their interest, paving the way for a loan switch to East London.
It’s believed that Gomes is leaning towards a move to West Ham so he can team up with international teammate and friend Jose Fonte. Barcelona would like to bring in another midfielder to replace him. The Spanish transfer deadline is tomorrow evening.
