West Ham went to St James’ Park with some momentum after their midweek win against Cheltenham in the cup. James Collins, Declan Rice, Mark Noble, André Ayew and Edimilson Fernandes keeping their place in the starting XI.

Another individual mistake cost West Ham the first goal after Declan Rice got intercepted and Newcastle broke on the counter and slotted past Joe Hart.

West Ham went in at half time in desperate need of attacking players and more flair to their game. Manuel Lanzini got brought on for Declan Rice and he made the team pick up performance with a number of shots in the first 10 minutes with Hernández coming closest.

Manuel Lanzini got disposed by Ritchie and he didn’t close him down quick enough before Clark slotted home the header past Joe Hart who didn’t even try to dive for it.

The third come after Collins pushed up to try play offside as the ball got played through the gap to Mitrovic who took it round Joe Hart and slotted it into the back of the net.

The third defeat of the season sees West Ham rock bottom at the start of the international break.
