West Ham are drawing up contingency plans should they need to replace Slaven Bilic early in the season, according to the Mirror.
The Hammers have lost their opening two games of the season to Manchester United and Southampton respectively with the Croatian now finding himself under increased pressure.
West Ham are said to be keeping tabs on Rafa Benitez, a manager they were previously linked with, only for him to turn down a move to the club in favour of taking over at Real Madrid.
Benitez has made his concerns about Newcastle’s transfer plans public and his long-term future at St James’ Park appears to be bleak.
Tensions are also said to be running high at West Ham between Bilic and the board, who have reduced the manager’s input on transfers, despite the Hammers being busy in this summer’s market.
The Hammers face Cheltenham Town in the Carabao Cup tomorrow evening before travelling to Newcastle.
