West Ham closing in on William Carvalho deal

West Ham got the majority of their transfer business done early in the window, but are still eyeing one big move before the window shuts.

The club have been trying to strike a deal with Sporting for midfielder William Carvalho for two weeks now and are believed to be edging closer to a conclusion.

After rejecting an offer worth a total of £36.5m from the Hammers for Carvalho, with £27.4m up front and £9.1m in bonuses, Sporting have invited the Hammers to make another offer, say the Sunday Times.

Previously standing firm on their £36m asking price for the 25-year-old, Sporting have since lowered their demands and would accept a fee closer to £32.1m, but want the fee to be an up front, guaranteed payment with no bonuses in order to cover agent fees and solidarity payments to other clubs as part of the transfer.

Carvalho has agreed to the move and Sporting are now eager to cash-in on the Euro 2016 winner and a compromise is expected to be reached.

Set to see his wages doubled with the Hammers, Carvalho has agreed to a contract worth a base salary of £35,000-a-week in order to make the move but it’s now down to the clubs to agree a fee, and they’re expected to do so.
