Bilic confirms offer for Fletcher was too good to turn down

Ashley Fletcher’s time at West Ham appears to be coming to an end after just one season in East London.

The talented 21-year-old striker netted once in 20 appearances for the club last season and has attracted interest from the likes of Huddersfield, Watford and Leeds this summer.

Slaven Bilic has confirmed this morning that the club have accepted an offer from Championship side Middlesbrough to sell Fletcher as it was simply too good to turn down.

He got a fantastic offer last night. Ideally I wanted to have a different scenario but the offer was so good and I told him to be proud.

It seems as if Bilic wasn’t looking to sell the former Manchester United youngster but when ‘Boro stepped forward with a reported £7m offer, he had little option but to accept.

Fletcher has left the first-team squad in Germany and is travelling back to England to hold talks with ‘Boro and have a medical ahead of his proposed transfer.

With Fletcher set to leave, the Hammers are left with just three senior strikers in Javier Hernandez, Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho, with the latter pairing still some way away from being ready for action as they recover from their respective injuries.

Bilic is likely to dip into the transfer market again to bring in another senior striker to add to his ranks ahead of the new season.
