West Ham’s bid of £22million for striker Cedric Bakambu has been rejected by Villarreal, as reported in the Telegraph.
The 25-year-old scored 22 times in all competitions last season and Villarreal will be keen to keep hold of him, so West Ham will have to increase their offer substantially if they want to get their man.
Had the bid for DR Congo international been accepted, that would have already made him West Ham’s most expensive player of all time so an increased offer will only further distance the amount between a new club record and the current one, which currently stands at £20million.

West Ham Co-chairman David Gold already stated publicly that the Hammers are in the market for at least one new striker and having also bid for Cologne striker Anthony Modeste, it seems like West Ham mean business.
With two failed bids for strikers, time will tell if the Hammers are prepared to up their offers in order to get their targets.
