Raphael Spiegel confirms West Ham departure

Raphael Spiegel has confirmed on Twitter that he has now left the club after five years at West Ham.

He joined the Hammers in July 2012 in a £340,000 deal from Swiss side Grasshoppers to develop in the U21 side but in the five years since his arrival, he failed to make a single first-team appearance for the club.

The 24-year-old had several loan spells down the English Football pyramid but has never really made the leap into the first-team squad and has spent his entire career with the Hammers in the Development Squad.

Having signed a new two-year deal last season, Spiegel has decided to cancel his contract with West Ham by mutual consent and he’s now signed for Portuguese side Boavista.

West Ham released academy goalkeeper Sam Howes earlier this summer but have great faith that England U19 international Nathan Trott can develop further at the club in the coming years.
