As opposed to waiting until the last minute to sort out their major transfer deals last summer, West Ham want to get things done early, illustrated by the swiftness on show when bringing in Pablo Zabaleta from Manchester City.
Slaven Bilic wants to take the same approach when it comes to signing a striker or two this summer, but a deal to sign Kelechi Iheanacho from Manchester City is stalling and he’s weighing up alternatives.
According to Sky Sources, the Hammers are interested in signing OGC Nice forward Alassane Plea in the summer, while Christian Benteke and Michy Batshuayi have also been named.
Plea scored 11 goals in 25 appearances for Nice last season before suffering a meniscus tear in his knee, helping the south France side secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
The 24-year-old struck up an unlikely partnership with Mario Balotelli last season and can also play on the right-wing of a forward three.
Having suffered his knee injury in February, there is no timetable for a return yet for the former France U21 international. While his quality is undeniable, West Ham should avoid taking risks on players with an injury history, especially if they’re unproven in the Premier League.
