Huddersfield eager to secure deal for Ashley Fletcher

When Ashley Fletcher arrived on a free transfer from Manchester United last summer, even he admitted he didn’t think he’d have such a prominent role in the first-team squad as he did.

Not a regular by any stretch, Fletcher was routinely named in the matchday squad throughout the season and made a number of promising cameo substitute appearances which his crowning moment coming at Old Trafford when he netted against his former club.

That would be Fletcher’s only goal in 20 appearances this past season and with the club keen on signing at least two new strikers, he could be sent out on loan for some vital first-team experience.

The Mirror claim that Huddersfield have made an enquiry to take him on loan next season following their promotion to the Premier League.

David Wagner’s side made an approach for the England U20 international last summer before he joined the Hammers as well as a request to take him on loan in January, so the Terriers are clearly keen on signing him.

West Ham are expected to allow him to leave on loan if they can secure their preferred targets, namely Kelechi Iheanacho of Manchester City and Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi. The 21-year-old has a number of suitors, with Championship trio Fulham, Middlesbrough and Norwich are all interested too.
