West Ham join the race to sign Semedo

West Ham are joined by the likes of Crystal Palace, Southampton, Newcastle, West Brom and Newcastle in their pursuit of Sporting CP defender Ruben Semedo.

The Portuguese youngster is contracted to the Primeira Liga side until 2022 and has a staggeringly high release clause of €45m in his current deal at the club. However, he may not cost as much as this ahead of the coming transfer window, with Sporting seemingly willing to allow him to depart the club.

According to the printed version of Portuguese newspaper Record today, as covered by Noticias ao Minuto, Sporting will demand a fee of €20m for the 22-year-old, which is a hefty price to pay, working out as upwards of £17m.

Semedo has fallen down the pecking order under Jorge Jesus at Sporting and could very well be set for an exit, but the Hammers among many other teams would need to cough up a sizable fee to sign him if Record are correct.
