During the 2016/17 season, West Ham’s goalkeepers were less than impressive for the most part.
Adrian, who started the season as the incumbent, was displaced in the starting eleven by Darren Randolph following a number of poor performances before the Irishman himself was dropped and Adrian was reinstated between the sticks for the final few weeks of the season.
While Slaven Bilic says he’s content with his options in goal, there’s no doubt that West Ham would jump at the chance to improve that situation if it afforded itself – or so you would believe.
According to Transfer Market Web, West Ham decided to turn down the opportunity to sign Porto ‘keeper Iker Casillas on a free transfer this summer.
The 36-year-old is one of the most decorated goalkeepers the game has ever seen, bagging five La Liga’s, three Champions League’s, two European Championships and a World Cup during his 16-year spell as Real Madrid and Spain’s No.1 goalkeeper.
At one point regarded as the world’s best, Casillas is undoubtedly in the autumn of his career but goalkeepers can play well into their late 30s at a high level and Casillas still has a few more years to offer.
Arsenal also turned down the chance to sign Casillas who has agreed a deal to join Liverpool when his Porto contract expires, claims AS.
