When the summer transfer window opens, West Ham will prioritise one aspect to improve: pace in attack.
The London Evening Standard claims that Slaven Bilic will look bring pace in abundance into his squad ahead of next season with no real on the shoulder threat in attack right now.
Michail Antonio is the club’s quickest player in the forward areas, but the Englishman has struggled with hamstring injuries this season and who knows how long they could plague him for going forward.
The likes of Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho are more static centre-forwards, while Andre Ayew, Manuel Lanzini and Robert Snodgrass can all carry the ball forward but like to drift inside from wide areas as opposed to trying to beat a man and get in behind.
To rectify this, Bilic is again looking at a deal to sign Michy Batshuayi, a year after the Belgian chance to join West Brom from Marseille in favour of a £33m switch to Chelsea, while Southampton’s Shane Long is also on the radar.
Batshuayi has made 17 Premier League appearances this season but is yet to start a league game under Antonio Conte who is not convinced of the young forward and may look to offload him in the summer if they can find a replacement with Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata amongst those targeted.
There’s no doubt that West Ham need at least two new strikers in the summer and Batshuayi is a player the club are infatuated with and are expected to target either on loan or on a permanent transfer.
