Michail Antonio firmly believes that West Ham are just a few players short of challenging for European football next season, as reported in the Daily Mail.
The London-based club sit in 14th place in the Premier League and are 19 points away from seventh place – the lowest European qualification spot in the league this season.
Despite this, the England international winger insists that the Hammers are just a few quality players short of challenging the top seven.
We need to sign a couple of players – a right-back, one more centre-half, two strikers – and get more goals. If we can do that, we will be up there for European places.
Antonio, whose season ended when he sustained a hamstring injury in a win over Swansea earlier this month, also gave an update on his bid to return to fitness.
I am looking to be back around July, basically getting ready for the beginning of next season.
I’m hoping to be involved in the majority of pre-season training. I might miss the first week, but I’ll hopefully be back for the rest of it.
Antonio has scored nine times and assisted with three in the league this season, as West Ham and boss Slaven Bilić have suffered a turbulent campaign in their debut season at the London Stadium.
The versatile wide man is sure to be a vital cog in Bilic’s plans next season and the Croatian will hope that his star man can be fit and firing for the 2017/18 campaign.
