Michail Antonio out for the rest of the season

Michail Antonio has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.

West Ham’s top scorer this season picked up the injury during the 3-2 home defeat to Leicester back in March despite playing the full 90 minutes on the day.

The injury forced Antonio to pull out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad to face Germany and Lithuania at the end of the month and sidelined him for three weeks.

He made his return to the side earlier in April, starting the midweek game at Arsenal before being substituted at half-time, presumably after aggravating the injury.

Slaven Bilic then decided Antonio was fit to start last weekend against Swansea but shortly before half-time, Antonio felt his hamstring go again and was replaced by Jonathan Calleri.

Speaking at his press conference this morning, Bilic has confirmed that Antonio’s season is over:

We are without Michail Antonio. It’s a significant injury and he’s out for the season.

In his absence, expect Robert Snodgrass or Sofiane Feghouli to return to the starting line-up for the trip to Sunderland this weekend.
