West Ham have been known to make a few desperate attempts to sign players in the past and reports of a move to sign Wayne Rooney falls in line with this.
The England and Manchester United captain is in and out of the first-team picture at Old Trafford and was dropped from the England squad for the games against Germany and Lithuania this month, leading to speculation that he could leave the club.
United’s all-time record goalscorer, Rooney will have many offers from all over the world in the summer, but West Ham are seemingly interested in offering him a Premier League lifeline.
However, any deal has been cast into doubt as the Mirror note, due to Rooney’s £300,000-a-week wages, a figure the Hammers cannot even come close to matching.
Andy Carroll is the highest-paid player at the London Stadium today, following Dimitri Payet’s January exit, earning a mere £80,000-a-week in comparison to Rooney who pockets nearly four times that figure.
While this deal will forever remain a pipe-dream of David’s Gold and Sullivan, we’re best served to focus on more realistic targets.
