Enner Valencia hoping for Everton stay next season

For whatever reason, it never clicked for Enner Valencia at West Ham.

The Ecuadorian international striker spent two full seasons with the Hammers following his £12m move from Mexican side Pachuca following his impressive performances at the 2014 World Cup, but he only found the net on 10 occasions in 72 appearances for the club.

A decision was made to send him out on loan this season and after talk of moves to Lazio and Roma died down he completed a deadline day move to Everton for the 2016/17 season.

The 27-year-old has been in and out of the Everton team under Ronald Koeman, making 17 Premier League appearances, just six of which have been starts and scoring twice in those games.

Valencia has told the Everton club website that he hopes to make a bigger impact for the Toffees over the last 10 games of the season.

There are 10 games in which I could play. And those 10 games are vital because what we have to do is seal qualification for one of the European competitions

Built into the loan deal is a £14m purchasing option that Everton could exercise at the end of the season and Valencia’s intentions are clear – he’d like to leave West Ham permanently and stay at Everton.

I’m all about being positive and the best possible way of looking at things. I’m really keen to play. It’s all about focusing on the present rather than the future, but I can say from my point of view that I would love to stay.

West Ham are expected to go big after another striker or two in the summer and regardless of whether Everton pick up their option to buy Valencia, it’s clear that he doesn’t feature in the club’s long-term plans.
