Michail Antonio. Havard Nordtveit. Cheikhou Kouyate. What do these players all have in common?
They’ve all been plugged in at right-back at one point or another this season as West Ham desperately lack dependable options at the position.
Sam Byram has struggled mightily with fitness this season, while Alvaro Arbeloa clearly doesn’t feature in Slaven Bilic’s first-team plans after returning from a leg injury.
Bringing in a right-back remains a priority in the summer and West Ham have made an enquiry into signing veteran Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner, according to Italian source Il Bianco Nero.
The 33-year-old has bags of experience playing at the top level, making 217 appearances for Juventus following his £8.5m move to Turin from Lazio in July 2011.
Lichtsteiner is under contract until the end of next season and Juventus have made it clear they wish to keep the defender who has been capped 88 times by Switzerland.
However, given his age and contract status, West Ham could be able to prise him away from the Serie A giants with a big enough bid, but as we’ve seen this season with Arbeloa, bringing in an ageing fullback may not be the smartest move.
