West Ham on alert as Andre Gray stalls on new Burnley deal

West Ham, Southampton, Stoke and Newcastle have all been put on alert as Burnley continue to stall on discussing terms to a new contract with star striker Andre Gray, according to the Mirror.

Gray, whose contract expires at the end of next season, has not seen talks opened about extending his stay at Turf Moor beyond 2018 with a growing belief that the striker will leave the club in the summer.

The 25-year-old, who received a four-game suspension earlier in the season for tweets posted several years ago, has netted eight goals in 21 Premier League appearances for the Clarets this season with talk of a possible England call-up in the near future intensifying.

Started out as a youngster with Shrewsbury, Gray was forced to take the non-league route to Premier League stardom after joining Hinckley United following his release from the Shrews in 2010.

In March 2012, Gray, who had been making waves in non-league, was picked up by National League side Luton on a two-month loan deal and he was a flash in the pan, scoring in each of his first four league games and eight in 14 games across all competitions, including a goal in the play-off final defeat to York City.

Luton signed Gray permanently for just £34,000 and he went on to score 47 goals in 92 games over the next two years before Brentford swooped in and signed the pacey forward in a £530,000 deal.

The step up to the Championship was a breeze for Gray who netted 20 goals for Brentford which prompted Burnley to stump up £10.5m for him in August 2015.

Gray is aware of interest from bigger clubs in him and will wait and see how Burnley’s season unfolds between now and May before making a definitive decision on his future.
