West Ham expected to complete summer deal for Malcuit

West Ham are expected to solve their right-back problems in the summer by completing the signing of Saint-Etienne standout Kevin Malcuit, Sky Sources understand.

Reports claimed that West Ham had offers of €8m and €10m rejected for the 25-year-old fullback during the January transfer window as Slaven Bilic eyed an experienced and proven quality defender to add to his back four.

Malcuit came through the ranks at AS Monaco but made just four first-team appearances for the club before leaving on a free transfer in July 2012, joining Fréjus-Saint-Raphaël FC in the fourth tier of French football.

Impressing in 18 months with the club, Malcuit made the move to Ligue 2 side FC Niort before returning to Ligue 1 in August 2015 when Saint Etienne shelled out £500,000 for him.

Cheikhou Kouyate is currently deputising at right-back with the staff not confident enough in either Sam Byram or Alvaro Arbeloa to do the job effectively at the moment – a worrying thought.

Byram has potential to be a decent player for the Hammers but will need competition next season and it seems Malcuit will be making the move across The Channel.
