The 18-year-old centre-back, who can also play in defensive midfield, has only made two appearances for the West Ham first-team this season after breaking into the setup last term.

An ankle injury sidelined him for most of the Autumn but now back fit, Oxford will be playing regular football with Reading for the remainder of the season which will be best for his development.

The opportunity to work under former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam is believed to have been a big factor in his decision to join the Royals.

Reading Chief Executive Nigel Howe added: “Reece was a player who was wanted on loan by a number of clubs and we are absolutely delighted to have secured his services for the remainder of the season. He is young, but hungry for success and I am sure he will prove an excellent addition to our squad and learn a lot during his spell under Jaap Stam at Reading.”
