Defensively, West Ham have been shaky this season and Slaven Bilic wants to bring in some fresh blood to solve the issues.
Ajax defender Joel Veltman is on West Ham’s radar and the Mirror understand that the Hammers are eyeing a move for the £8m-rated centre-back this month.
Veltman is very similar to James Tomkins in the fact that he can play at right-back as well as at the heart of the defence and the Hammers have missed Tomkins’ versatility this term after letting him join Crystal Palace in the summer.
West Ham have dithered between a back three and a back four this season, with both being employed during yesterday’s 3-0 win over Palace, so bringing in an extra centre-back would not be the worst idea.
Veteran James Collins is entering the Autumn of his career and is very much used in a reserve role for the Hammers. His contract expires in 2018 and Sam Allardyce wants to bring him to Selhurst Park and he could be allowed to leave.
As for the 24-year-old Dutch international Veltman, his contract also expires in 2018 which may give the Hammers hope if Ajax wish to cash-in on their academy graduate.
