Manager Slaven Bilic confirmed to the media on Thursday that the former Marseille man wanted to leave the club, with a return to France on the cards.

The Hammers have reportedly already turned down a £20 million bid from Payet’s former club, Marseille, who are looking to land Payet following their big-money takeover.

€40 million, which would convert to roughly £35 million would allow West Ham to reinvest the money, with moves for Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi and Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson being discussed.

Bilic took a firm stance on the situation, confirming the club did not want to sell their best player, but may be forced to do so after he refused to play for the club.
