You’re probably aware by now that Dimitri Payet doesn’t want to play for the Hammers anymore.
It appears he has his heart set on a return to France after seeing a bid in the region of £20m from his former club Marseille turned down by the Hammers this month.
West Ham brought Payet in from the Ligue 1 club in July 2015 but just 18 months later he seems to have had enough of East London and wants to return to the south of France.
All this has come just a few months after Payet signed a new five-year deal with the Hammers in February running until 2021 which saw him become the club’s highest-paid player in their history, earning a reported £125,000-a-week.
However, the club’s failure to deliver on certain promises coupled with their poor form this term has resulted in Payet finally making the decision to essentially go on strike, with Slaven Bilic confirming this morning he won’t play or even train with the club until his attitude changes.
The Hammers remain adamant that Payet won’t leave this month which makes it a nigh on certainty that he does so in the summer.
Currently sitting 13th in the table and seven points clear of the relegation zone, West Ham are by no means clear of a relegation scrap which could have major implications on Payet’s future.
The Daily Mail note that in his contract, Payet has a £15m release clause if the Hammers are relegated which would make it even easier for interested parties to snap up the 29-year-old for a cut-price fee.
While Bilic’s men should have enough to steer comfortably clear of the drop, if form takes another dip in the coming weeks then they could easily be swept up in another relegation dogfight which certainly won’t help Payet reconsider his stance.
Payet has been linked with moves to Marseille, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Arsenal and PSG in recent times.
