West Ham rival Barcelona for Yerry Mina
Eager to add some talent to their defensive ranks this month, West Ham’s search has taken them to South America.
According to the Mirror, West Ham are interested in highly-rated Palmeiras centre-back Yerry Mina.
The 22-year-old joined the Brazilian outfit from Colombian side Independiente Santa Fe in May 2016 for a fee in the region of £2.7m and has rapidly become one of the most promising young defenders playing in Brazil today.
His form has not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona regularly making checks on his progress and the La Liga giants remain interested in working a deal to sign Mina in the summer.
However, West Ham are also keen on the defender and are hopeful they can strike a deal for the Colombian international this month, or arrange an option to buy him further down the line.
West Ham’s recent South American signings have not gone to plan with both Jonathan Calleri and Enner Valencia enduring tough times in East London, but Manuel Lanzini remains a positive example to any South American stars who’re looking to move to the Premier League.
