Montpellier want €25m for West Ham target Sanson

Slaven Bilic is looking to rectify his disastrous summer transfer window by bringing in some star quality to his squad this month.

This hasn’t been helped by the fact Cheikhou Kouyate is away at the African Cup of Nations which has made recruiting another midfielder a top priority for West Ham this month.

A player the Hammers have had their eye on is Montpellier’s Morgan Sanson, who is also wanted by Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, say the Daily Mail, while GFFN state both West Brom and Swansea are keen on the midfield playmaker.

The 22-year-old spent the majority of last season on the sidelines after sustaining a cruciate ligament injury late in the 2014/15 season. Sanson did return to action briefly midway through last season, before suffering another lengthy injury lay-off just weeks after returning.

However, a return to fitness has brought with it a welcome return to form this term, with Sanson contributing towards 10 goals (three goals, seven assists) in 19 Ligue 1 appearances this term.

Montpellier’s club president, Louis Nicollin, spoke on Monday about what it would take for Sanson to leave the club and was adamant that only offers of €20-25m could tempt them into a sale.

“Morgan Sanson will not leave this winter unless we are offered 20-25 million. In June, we’ll see,” Nicollin is quoted as saying by Le10Sport.

Marseille and AS Roma are also interested in the former France U21 international.
