According to David Anderson of the Mirror, the Hammers are poised to complete the transfer for Brentford striker Scott Hogan this month.
Talks were held between the two clubs over the weekend and it seems they were very productive. A fee of around £12m is believed to have been agreed between the two clubs.
The 24-year-old striker has enjoyed a sharp rise up the footballing pyramid, trotting out for the likes of Stocksbridge Park Steels, Halifax Town and Ashton United before joining Rochdale in 2013.
Hogan joined Brentford in 2014 for just £800,000 and has made a name for himself as one of the Championship’s top strikers. His 20 goals in the 2016 calendar year was the most by any player in England’s second tier, while his 14 goals this term is enough to see him third in the top scorers charts this season.
West Ham made some dismal signings in the summer, with both Jonathan Calleri and Simone Zaza failing to make an impact (or score a goal) since arriving on their respective loan deals, while Diafra Sakho has missed virtually the entire season through injury.
In recent seasons, the Hammers have enjoyed great success shopping in the Championship, with Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio both coming from the second tier to become integral parts of the first-team squad while Sam Byram also has a bright future in East London.
