West Ham are prepared to look elsewhere for a striker after giving up in their pursuit of Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe, according to Jason Burt of the Telegraph.
It’s widely reported that the Hammers have had a £6m bid turned down by the Black Cats for their star striker and that they are preparing a second offer for the player but it will likely be given the same response.
David Moyes has made it clear to the Sunderland board that he will not stand for the sale of the 34-year-old, who has 11 goals this season, and that Defoe holds the key to the club’s survival bid this season.

Regardless of whether the former Tottenham and Portsmouth striker wants to return to West Ham or not in January, it appears Sunderland won’t sanction the sale at any price, forcing the Hammers to look elsewhere.
Rumours of a £20m bid for Moussa Dembele are also wide of the mark, with co-chairman David Sullivan telling Telegraph Sport: “We have not bid for this player and he’s not a target of ours.”
Brentford are holding out for £15m to sell their star striker Scott Hogan this month, nearly double the £8m West Ham are said to have offered, while Southampton’s Shane Long remains on our radar.
