Marseille offer Lassana Diarra as part of Payet bid

Marseille really are serious about bringing their former talisman Dimitri Payet back to the club this January, despite West Ham’s best efforts to completely dissuade them from even making a bid.

It was claimed yesterday that the Ligue 1 club were willing to offer either Romain Alessandrini or Bouna Sarr, both wingers, in addition to their €40m offer for Payet in January to help sweeten the pot for the Hammers.

Now, according to Wednesday’s print edition of L’Equipe (h/t Eurosport), Marseille are now also willing to chuck Lassana Diarra into the deal in another bid to get the deal over the line.

The former Arsenal, Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder joined Marseille on a free transfer after he left Lokomotiv Moscow in a dispute which resulted in him being charged with a €10m fine he had to repay the Russian club and a 15-month ban from playing professional football.

During that time, Diarra came on trial with the Hammers with a view to signing for them on a free transfer under Sam Allardyce, but his FIFA-imposed ban put an end to any chance of him joining.

West Ham remain adamant that Payet is not for sale at any price in January, no matter who Marseille are willing to offer as part of the deal.
