Marseille looking to sign Sofiane Feghouli

It’s been heavily reported that Marseille are interested in re-signing Dimitri Payet in January, but in the likely scenario that they fail to do so, they are interested in bringing in another West Ham attacker during the transfer window.

According to today’s print edition of L’Equipe (h/t Sport.fr), Marseille want to sign Sofiane Feghouli during the January transfer window.

The Algerian winger started out at Grenoble in the lower reaches of French football before making the move to Valencia in 2010 where he spent six years prior to joining West Ham on a free transfer back in the summer.

Feghouli came with a big pedigree but has so far failed to impress in his 14 appearances, primarily off the bench but in his first Premier League start of the season last time out against Manchester United he was shown a dubious red card for a challenge on Phil Jones.

It’s understood that Slaven Bilic is not yet convinced by the 27-year-old and that he could leave the club in January to free up space in the squad for a replacement.

Marseille manager Rudi Garcia is interested in making a move for the winger but Aston Villa’s Jordan Amavi and Sassuolo’s Gregoire Defrel remain his primary targets.
