West Ham request to delay Andre Ayew’s AFCON departure

Andre Ayew has flashed signs of finally settling in at West Ham and his performance against his former club Swansea certainly was his best yet for the club and getting a goal certainly helps all involved.

West Ham are on the back of a three-game winning streak and Ayew has played a large part in all three of the wins.

With Ayew going from strength to strength, West Ham have made a request to the Ghanaian FA to delay Ayew’s departure to join up with the national team squad for next month’s African Cup of Nations, say Ghanasoccernet.

West Ham are mandated to release Ayew for international duty on New Year’s Day, 14 days prior to the start of the tournament in Gabon. However, they have requested to keep him for another 48 hours to he will be able to play in the home game against Manchester United on January 2nd.

Given our current form, it’s wise not to disrupt the line-up and if that means requesting to keep Ayew for one more game, it’s certainly worth asking the question.
