Kevin Nolan back training with West Ham

Kevin Nolan back training with West Ham

West Ham have another former player training with the club at the moment.

Kevin Nolan is working with the first-team in what we assume is a bid to keep himself fit and active while he figures out the next steps in his career.

The 34-year-old midfielder was signed by Sam Allardyce when West Ham were relegated to the Championship and was made club captain to help lead the Hammers back into the Premier League.

Having been a mainstay in the side under Allardyce, when he was replaced by Slaven Bilic in the summer of 2015, Nolan’s first-team chances were limited and he was released by the club in August by mutual consent. He spent four years at the club, making 157 appearances for West Ham and scored 31 times.

He remained out of football until January 2016 when he was named player-manager of Leyton Orient on a two-and-a-half year contract. His first spell as a manager was indifferent, winning just seven of his 15 matches in charge of Orient and he was relieved of those duties in April but remained at the club as a player.

In July, he was released by Orient and has been without a club since. Lately, Nolan has rejoined his friends at West Ham and has been training with the first-team, as seen in the above video posted on YouTube by West Ham earlier today.

Nolan isn’t the only former Hammers currently training with the club. In the same video, you’ll find Carlton Cole peppering Sam Howes and Raphael Spiegel with a few shots on goal.

After leaving the Sacramento Republic in October to pursue a career back in English football, Cole has been working with the Hammers to keep fit and will continue to do so until the New Year or until he finds another employer.

Given our current situation, we could do a lot worse than re-sign Nolan and Cola, right?

…right?

Maybe not then.
