Carlton Cole is back at West Ham – this is not a drill.
The former Hammer is training with the first-team squad in a bid to maintain his fitness levels while he is out of contract and will continue to do so until January.

He has been pictured outside the training facility and quite frankly, we could and have done a lot worse than him this season.
Carlton spent the best part of 10 seasons with the Hammers, barring a four-month blip in 2013 where he was released in the summer and re-signed in October later that year when the club were going through a striker crisis not too dissimilar to the one they’re in now.
He impressed between October and January on a short-term contract and was handed an 18-month extension which he played through before leaving the club for good this time in the summer of 2015. He played 293 games for the Hammers, scoring 67 goals.
Cole joined Celtic in October 2015 on a deal until the end of the season and made just five appearances, scoring once in a largely unsuccessful spell.
What followed was a brief stint in the USL with the Sacramento Republic but the former England international striker left the club after just four games last month.
Cole is eager for a chance to play football again in the UK and has returned ‘home’ to East London to keep in shape and spend time with his mates over at West Ham while he reviews his options.
Unfortunately, I don’t envisage a scenario where he’s handed a contract by us this time.
