West Ham and Southampton had scouts present in Portugal last weekend as Porto overcame Arouca with consummate ease, winning 3-0 on the night at the Estádio do Dragão.
I’m sure they weren’t there just for a night out at the football.
A number of Porto stars were in good form on the night who could’ve been on the radar of West Ham.
Andre Silva bagged two goals on the night for the hosts and has recently been linked with a move to Arsenal. The 20-year-old striker has nine goals in 13 appearances in all competitions so far this season, including seven in eight in the Liga NOS.
He made his international debut for Portugal last month and scored four goals in his three caps so far, including a hat-trick against the Faroe Islands a fortnight ago.
Other possible targets could include Yacine Brahimi and Diogo Jota.
26-year-old attacking midfielder Brahimi has been linked with West Ham in the past and scored Porto’s third goal on the night, his 23rd goal for the Portuguese club in 92 appearances. He’s also racked up 21 assists in his time with the club.
The Algerian playmaker is a natural ballplayer on either wing as well as being able to operate behind the main striker. Born in Paris, Brahimi opted to play for the African nation and has scored seven goals in 30 caps to date.
Diogo Joto is someone the Hammers may have had eyes on as well. On loan from Atletico Madrid, the 19-year-old put in an impressive performance as had three goals in four Liga NOS appearances this season. Porto do have an option to buy the striker.
