Sao Paolo director jokes about Jonathan Calleri return

It’s not been an easy two months for Jonathan Calleri since his arrival in English football.

The young Argentine striker has made eight appearances for the Hammers without scoring, including a number of high-profile misses from close range which haven’t sat well amongst the West Ham faithful.

Calleri was handed a chance at the start of the season with Andy Carroll, Andre Ayew and Diafra Sakho all out injured but failed to capitalise and is now way down the pecking order.

In reaction to this, Sao Paolo fans took to social media posting the hashtag ‘#VoltaCalleri’ – meaning ‘Come Back Calleri’ but it appears their wishes will not be answered.

According to Globo Esporte, Cunha later stated that he was just having some fun in regards to his comments about Calleri and that the striker will not be returning to the club, saying:

If things were easy by an Instagram post, it would be great. Sign (Lionel) Messi! It was just a joke.

It appears as if we’ll have Calleri for the full 2016/17 season, people. Strap yourselves in for the ride.
