West Ham’s London Stadium could be hosting the first-ever Major League Baseball game in the UK next year, the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has said.
The London Evening Standard state that Khan held talks with MLB chief Rob Manfred on his visit to New York earlier this month about the possibility of bringing Baseball to the UK audience and maintaining London’s status as the ‘sporting capital of the world’.
A potential first match could take place next summer, with the New York Mets one of the more likely sides to travel to London and host a game. Khan threw the first pitch at a Mets game earlier this month.
“What we’re discussing with Major League Baseball is for them to come here during the summer, which works for us for obvious reasons,” Khan said at the unveiling of London’s Euro 2020 logo.

“They are very excited and the commissioner is very keen. They’ve tried playing Major League Baseball in Australia. They were very receptive.
“The owner of the New York Mets was very receptive. We’re in discussions about MLB and we want MLB to come to London.”
American sports have been infiltrating the London market lately, with there set to be three NFL games hosted in London this season, two at Wembley and one at Twickenham for the very first time.
There’s also an agreement in place between the NFL and Tottenham for the North London side to host two NFL games a season when they move into their new stadium in 2019.
