West Ham hold team meeting over Watford embarrassment

Slaven Bilic has revealed that he and his West Ham squad held a behind-closed-doors team meeting this week following the embarrassing 4-2 home defeat to Watford last Saturday.

The Hammers were 2-0 up and cruising thanks to two headers from Michail Antonio but found a way to throw away the lead in the final five minutes of the first-half and went on to lose the game.

Odion Ighalo pulled one back for the Hornets before a cock-up between Adrian and James Collins enabled Troy Deeney to level it up just before the interval. Goals from Etienne Capoue and Jose Holebas after the break capped off a miserable outing for the Hammers and Bilic wasn’t standing for that sort of performance.

“It was not a good performance last week. More individual mistakes and misunderstanding from a couple of players” he told reporters at his pre-match press conference today.

“We have talked about it behind-closed-doors. We had a really good meeting and now waiting for the reaction from the team [tomorrow].

“Mistakes will happen but we have to defend better and defend like we did last season.” he continued.

Tomorrow, West Ham travel to the Hawthorns to take on West Brom. The Baggies will be a more resolute opposition than Watford and won’t pose as much of an attacking threat which could play into West Ham’s hands.
