AC Milan show interest in Obiang

Serie A side AC Milan have expressed an interest in signing West Ham midfielder Pedro Obiang, according to Calcio Mercato.

Obiang joined the Hammers from Sampdoria last summer for £5m but has failed to establish himself in the first-team. The 24-year-old made just 24 league appearances last term and found himself behind Mark Noble, Cheikhou Kouyate, and Alex Song in the pecking order.

West Ham are now looking to recoup the £5m that they spent on the Spain youth international, having recruited Håvard Nordtveit, who plays in the same position as Obiang, from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer.

AC Milan are eager to acquire Obiang’s services, but would prefer for him to spend a year on loan at the San Siro before they make the move permanent. Milan do, however, face competition from fellow Serie A outfit Fiorentina.

Calcio Mercato also reports that it is unlikely that Obiang will move to another Premier League team. He would prefer to move back to Italy.
