According to Inside Futbol, West Ham target Thomas Vermaelen is set to sign for Serie A side Roma in the coming days.
The report says that he is due in the Italian capital later today to discuss terms with the club, before completing his move from Barcelona.
Roma have already agreed a deal with Barcelona, with the Catalan giants keen to move Vermaelen on this summer. Barcelona signed Samuel Umtiti last month, which has prompted Luis Enrique to let go of Vermaelen.
The Italian side have agreed a loan deal for the defender, with an option to buy at the end of the season. This will give Roma a good chance to see what he is capable of before deciding to sign him.
This will come as a blow to West Ham, who were eyeing him up as a possible signing this summer to strengthen the central defensive options this season.
