West Ham face competition from Marseille for the signing of Palermo left-back Achraf Lazaar, according to Sport Italia (via Inside Futbol).
The Hammers are without a senior recognised left-back following Aaron Cresswell’s injury suffered in pre-season which will sideline him for up to four months.
In the meantime, Sam Byram has filled in at left-back during both of West Ham’s Europa League ties against NK Domzale in the last week but he won’t be a permanent stand in.
Inter Milan’s Davide Santon was set to join on a season-long loan with a view to buy next summer for £5m but the former Newcastle defender failed a medical earlier this week and West Ham pulled the plug on a deal.
West Ham were keen on going back in for Lazaar after having an initial £2.5m bid rejected, but now Marseille are ready to make their move.
The Moroccan defender is also wanted by Roma and made 31 appearances for Palermo last season, scoring once. Lazaar has just one year left to run on his current contract and has agreed terms to a move to West Ham already.
