West Ham close to signing Arthur Masuaku

West Ham are close to signing highly-rated Olympiakos left-back Arthur Masuaku this summer, according to Daniel Taylor of the Guardian.

Twitter: Been told this morning that West Ham close to signing Arthur Masuaku, a 22-year-old French left-back from Olympiakos #whufc (@DTguardian)

The news comes after the Hammers were dealt a crushing blow in their pursuit of Inter Milan defender Davide Santon, who failed a medical earlier this week after a deal to bring him in on a season-long loan with a view to buy for £5m next summer was agreed.

Slaven Bilic is desperate to sign a left-back this summer due to the long-term injury to Aaron Cresswell suffered in pre-season, and has also seen two bids turned down by Norwich for Martin Olsson and is not prepared to meet the £5m asking price.

Arthur Masuaku is someone who’s slipped under the radar and the club believe they’re closing in on his signature.

The 22-year-old Frenchman is uncapped at international level and joined the Greek giants in the summer of 2014 in a £250k deal from Ligue 2 side Valenciennes.

Masuaku has made 74 appearances for Olympiakos in the last two years, scoring twice and creating nine goals himself. Having also played in the Champions League, he offers great European experience which will be handy in the Europa League.

It seems the Hammers are eager to get this deal done and dusted soon in order to register him in the Premier League squad for the trip to Chelsea on August 15th – the opener of the Premier League season
