West Ham to launch €8.2m Gomez bid

Turkish source Haber7 claim West Ham are resigned to missing out on Colombian striker Carlos Bacca and have now turned their attention to Mario Gomez of Fiorentina.

Gomez was linked with a move to East London earlier this window after impressing at the Euros, though a move failed to materialise. Slaven Bilic is desperate to bolster his attacking options this summer and is thought to be a keen admirer of the German international.

According to Haber7, West Ham are looking to conclude a deal as early as possible and will launch an €8.2million bid for Gomez. The 31-year-old’s future is expected to be resolved ‘in a short time’.

Gomez spent last season on loan at Bilic’s former side Besiktas, where he netted 26 times in 33 league games. Many expected him to then complete a permanent transfer to the Turkish side, but political unrest within the country has seen Gomez make a dramatic U-turn and shelve those plans (as per The Mirror).
