Real Madrid launch €50m Payet move

Real Madrid have launched a €50m bid to beat Manchester City and Chelsea to the signing of West Ham attacker Dimitri Payet.

According to French source Le10Sport, the Champions League winners are set to launch a big-money bid to lure Payet to the Bernabeu this summer.

Since signing for West Ham a year ago, Dimitri Payet has been the best player at the club. His world-class performances helped guide West Ham to Europa League qualification for next season.

His performances also caught the eye of national team manager Didier Deschamps who admitted he could ‘no longer ignore’ Payet’s performances at Upton Park.

He’s carried his form into the Euros where he stole the show in the tournament opener. France needed a goal, and Payet delivered with a sumptuous 25-yard strike into the top corner in the 89th minute to secure a 2-1 victory over Romania.

Since Friday, both Manchester City and Chelsea have been linked with moves for the 29-year-old attacking midfielder who is not for sale at any cost according to Hammers co-owner David Sullivan.

It’s understood that West Ham value Payet at £60m – hoping that would price him out of a move this summer. However, the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as the big English clubs, can all afford a move for him.

Payet’s fine form was rewarded in February where he signed a new deal worth £120,000-a-week until the summer of 2021, but even that might not be enough to keep him in East London.

Real Madrid are understood to be readying a bid worth €50m (£40m) and will offer Payet €160,000-a-week (£125,000-a-week) to persuade him to make the switch from Premier League to La Liga.

One thing’s for sure: the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and possibly more will be interested in signing Dimitri Payet this summer, and the Hammers have one hell of a fight on their hands to keep hold of him.
