West Ham boosted in pursuit of Newcastle star

It has been a frustrating summer for West Ham so far having had bids for a number of their top targets knocked back, but they have received a timely boost in their pursuit of one potential target, French international Moussa Sissoko.

Sissoko, once again, reiterated his desire to leave Newcastle United this summer yesterday, following the club’s relegation to the Championship.

He talked up a potential move to Arsenal, before admitting a move to any Premier League side with Champions League football is good enough.

You have to admire Sissoko for his ambition, but Mark Douglas of The Chronicle has rained on his parade, revealing that he currently has ‘no significant interest’ from any Champions League sides.

Having grown frustrated by the lack of progress in their negotiations with Besiktas over a potential move for Gokhan Tore, West Ham could their attentions to Sissoko, who they were linked with last month. The move, albeit unlikely, still remains a possibility.

Newcastle insist they will not be held to ransom over transfers this summer, despite their relegation to the Championship, but Sissoko’s recent comments to Foot Mercato have severed any ties the Frenchman had with the club and their hands may be forced.

West Ham remain in pole position to sign Algerian winger Sofiane Feghouli on a free transfer, while Manchester United outcast Juan Mata has also been touted as a potential target.

There is certainly no doubting Slaven Bilic’s priorities this summer – signing a striker and a winger.
