West Ham are poised to announce the arrival of promising 16-year-old midfielder Domingos Quina having beaten Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and Manchester City to the signing of the former Chelsea and Benfica starlet.

Quina joined the Chelsea academy as a 13-year-old from Benfica and is widely regarded as one of the best prospects in the Portuguese game, and has featured for his country at U-17 level.

The attacking midfielder opted for a move to East London as the project in place at West Ham, in addition to their reputation for developing young talents and bringing them through successfully presented a much better opportunity for first-team football down the line then it would have at the lives of Arsenal or Manchester City.

The Hammers also brought in teenager Daniel Kemp earlier in the season who was also a former Chelsea academy player, which also supports the argument that West Ham is rapidly becoming an increasingly attractive option for developing talents in English football to help foster their game.

Quina could become the second teenager the Hammers sign this week after the confirmed the signing of promising 18-year-old striker Antonio Martinez from Valencia.

The young forward could cost the Hammers as much as £2.4m depending on various add-ons relating to his success at the club, and officially joins the club on July 1st, but has been granted permission to train with his new team-mates for the rest of the season.
