West Ham confirm their first signing of the summer

West Ham have signed Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Havard Nordtveit on a free transfer, according to the Daily Mail.

Nordtveit originally joined Arsenal from Norwegian team Haugesund back in 2007 but never made an appearance for the first team, spending many loan spells at numerous clubs.

The 25-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season, and it is looking more likely that he will be joining West Ham ahead of the new season’s kickoff.

Nordtveit has joined M’gladbach in the 2010/2011 season, making his first start for the team on January 15, 2011. He has featured 173 times for the German team in all competitions, netting 12 goals overall with four of them coming this season.

West Ham currently sit in the sixth place but are only one point behind Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Borussia Monchengladbach are fifth in the Bundesliga, and are currently level on points with Mainz 05 and Schalke 04.
