Agent reveals why Zaza snubbed West Ham

The agent of Juventus striker Simone Zaza, Christian Maifredi, has revealed why the Italian didn’t come to Upton Park in the transfer window.

West Ham were heavily linked with the Serie A winner in January, however after an unsuccessful attempt to gain his signature instead decided to sign Emmanuel Emenike.

Speaking to an Italian radio station, Christian Maifredi explained the reason behind Zaza staying with ‘The Old Lady’.

There were expressions of interest from Premier League clubs in January. They’ll benefit from greater financial resources next season from television rights. There was interest, but nothing more. There was never a real possibility of Zaza moving away from Juventus, that wasn’t what he wanted. Today no-one thinks of leaving this great team.

Zaza received his first call-up for Italy in March 2014. Since then, he has achieved seven caps and scored a solitary international goal.

West Ham were not the only side to be interested in Zaza during the transfer window, with Stoke, Watford and Norwich all thought to have been courting the 28-year-old forward when looking for solutions to their own striker problems.
