Defender to consider future at West Ham

West Ham defender James Collins has a decision to make regarding his future but insists that at the moment he is fully focused on earning a regular spot in Slaven Bilic’s starting line-up.

The 32-year-old is out of contract in the summer and having only played in seven games so far this season, he may well look elsewhere to get regular first team football.

For now, Collins says his main focus is playing more regularly for the Hammers to help him earn a place in the Wales side for the upcoming European Championships.

Speaking to the BBC, the defender said:

I need to concentrate on my club form and playing well for West Ham. I’m obviously out of contract in the summer, which I need to look at, and performing well week in, week out. Staying in the West Ham side will obviously be good for me with my Wales opportunities.

Manager Slaven Bilic is a fan of Collins, and would not be keen to let the Welshman leave, but would likely understand his desire to play more often.

Speaking about the defender, Bilic said:

Collins is a brilliant professional. Every time he plays for us, whether he comes on for 20 minutes or whether he plays for 90 minutes, he’s absolutely magnificent. It’s a privilege to have that kind of player and character in the team.

With the likes of Winston Reid and James Tomkins seemingly ahead of Collins in the pecking order, getting more playing time may not be possible at West Ham.
