West Ham to battle Leicester for Championship defender

West Ham are considering a move for Burnley right-back Tendayi Darikwa in January, according to Shoot.

The Hammers are said to have been scouting the Championship defender throughout the current campaign, despite the 23-year-old having only joined Burnley in July.

Slaven Bilic is understood to be keen on recruiting a new right-back in the January window, but the Hammers boss may also face competition for Darikwa’s signature from fellow Premier League side Leicester City.

Darikwa signed for Burnley from Chesterfield in the summer on a three-year deal.

It’s unlikely that the Clarets would let the defender leave easily, though, having also seen last season’s first choice right-back, Kieran Trippier, depart for Tottenham Hotspur in July.

West Ham’s current first choice right-back Carl Jenkinson is on loan from Arsenal until the end of the campaign, whilst Joey O’Brien hasn’t played yet this season.

Darikwa has played in all 19 of Burnley’s Championship matches so far this term, providing one goal and one assist in that time.
