Manchester United make January bid for West Ham’s Reece Oxford

Manchester United are said to be plotting an £8m January swoop for West Ham starlet Reece Oxford.

The Times are suggesting that the Hammers latest breakthrough star from their famed Academy has attracted the interest of Manchester United.

The 16-year-old centre-back burst onto the scene during West Ham’s Europa League qualification campaign where he became the youngest player to ever play for the club at just 16 years and 198 days.

Being used as a central midfielder by Slaven Bilic, Oxford was handed his Premier League debut on the first day of the season away at Arsenal, where he earned much acclaim for shutting down the creative force that is Mesut Özil.

The report claims that West Ham are desperate to hold on to the promising England U19 international, who only put pen-to-paper on a professional contract at Upton Park last season.

The Hammers are ready to hand Oxford a new two-and-a-half-year deal with improved terms when he turns 17 later this month, as the FA restrict clubs from offering under-18s longer-term deals.

Oxford has six appearances for the club so far this season, and has been an unused sub three further times as he begins to cement his place in Bilic’s first-team plans going forward.
