Bilic – Manchester United aren’t boring

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic says that people who call Manchester United boring are wrong.

The Hammers visit Old Trafford on Saturday to face Louis van Gaal’s side and Bilic said that although the style at Man United is different than it was under Sir Alex Ferguson, they are getting results that justify van Gaal’s philosophy.

They’re different from the Alex Ferguson era where they were quicker, more electric and bombarding the box. They are winning and not conceding goals. Somebody said they are boring but I am not sure why people are saying this. They are keeping the ball, they are not a team who give you the ball and defend – you can say that this kind of football is sometimes boring. However, they have possession of the ball, they are controlling the game and they are trying to win every game.

Bilic said that having watched United, he thinks that they’ve been better and more attacking they have been given credit for.

I don’t find them boring – they are hard to beat. I watch them a lot and every game they have more chances and more ball possession than the opponent and in every game the opponent has only one or two chances.

West Ham travel north to Manchester without attacking duo Dimitri Payet and Diafra Sakho, both of whom will not play again before the New Year, while Enner Valencia will also be absent.

In a recent interview, van Gaal said that the first goal in United games is vital. The Dutchman said that if his side get the goal, it can draw the opposition out, thus allowing them to exploit any gaps at the back and Bilic agreed that summary.

After that first goal there is an opportunity to exploit the space in behind teams or in between the lines as the opponent pushes up higher and takes more risks.
